Default correct multiSH3 procedure?

I would like to have two SH3 versions on my computer:

- a vanilla SH3 1.4b for experimentation
- my current modded and tweaked SH3 version

Is this the right way to achieve it?

1. copy my heavily personalized SH3 into another folder, 'sublynxSH3' and the save game folder into 'sublynxSH3save'
2. uninstall SH3
3. reinstall SH3
4. place multish3 into folder sublynxSH3
5. run multish3

Would I then have a vanilla SH3 for experimentation purposes, and my old one still intact with its career not lost?

(BTW, copying just the MODS folder and then going back to vanilla unloading the mods with JSGME won't work for me as over the years I have very likely placed some files and tweaks outside the MODS folder.)

I've only used MultiSH3 with new careers, but after looking at the readme again I don't see why that couldn't work. You might not even need MultiSH3 for that, since what it really does is separate your campaign files so they don't get confused.

On the other hand I'd hate to be the reason you lost your favorite career...

Thanks Steve

I think I'm going to take the chance. If I lose the career it's no biggie. I don't have the time to play anyways

Thanks a lot Bl!tzkr!eg!

I'll try that procedure ASAP. The post contains numerous stuff I need to do. So far I have not even had the zipped vanilla version anywhere...

I tried S3F some time ago on a heavily modded SH3 and it didn't work on it and kind of forgot about the program as there was no dire need back then. Now I have a vanilla SH3 on my computer and can start experimenting with S3F easily.

Back when I was playing SH3, I "copied" my vanilla Silent Hunter 3 1.4b by right clicking on the SH3 game folder where it is installed. Then clicking Copy. You will then have 1 copy. Do it again and you will have Copy 2, and so on.

Back then we didn't have Multi SH3 and a way to have different copies we could play with it. So I don't know how you'd get these copies to run with Multi SH3. But someone should.
