We are all safe now! Any asteroids headed our way, the UN is on top of it.
![]() ![]() They will have so many negotiations with the asteroid, it will become bored to death and self destruct. ![]() (note, the asteroid, not the UN). http://www.space.com/26811-dangerous...ense-plan.html

When I am in a grim mood like today I really wonder whether it is even desirable to prevent a doomsday asteroid's rendezvous with Earth. Why not declaring it riens ne vas plus, all counters back to field one, all scores reset, and start evolution from scratch, this time hopefully without these insane naked monkeys that are notoriously taking themselves too seriously - every damn single one of them ?

No no no
When a asteroids is detected the UN will call the security council to a meeting. before this meeting the leader of this council make a text 1 or more of the members in the council will vote no so the meeting will be closed and some people will try to change this text so these country can vote yes next time. the leader call for a second meeting this time with the alternative text and even here some country will vote no a.s.o it continues Markus |

No doubt there will be an argument between the US and China over who'll get to mine the asteroid.
![]() EDIT: In all seriousness though, it's about time something like this was set up in order to co-ordinate the worlds military and space forces to combat a potential NEO threat and since the UN is probably the only major global co-ordinating force it makes sense to route it through the UN rather than set up another body to deal with it. So long as they don't use North Korean launch vehicles then we should be alright... |

And I who thought that the UN-security council would send a weak demand to any asteroid heading our way.
A very strong demand to begin with but after some countries has put veto to the original, the text will be weak. When UN doesn't get any answer there will be another meeting... Markus |

On the up side, the amount of paperwork required for a joint spacefaring nation asteroid intercept should just about provide enough padding to slow the asteroid down enough to prevent a catastrophic impact event...
