Default Couple noob questions about torpedos

Hie everyone.
after 2 patrols i found couple annoying things, i'm playing stock 1.4 - my downloads are disabled by some forum rules(inactivity)

torpedo changing type on the way from reserves to tube.
i had mark 10 in 2 tubes and reserves filled with mark14, those 2 tubes had mak10's after reload -HOW?

Ships are nearly indestructible, compared to shIII. Small merchant needs 2 torps but only 15 shots from 77mm bofors).
Subchaser survived one, i even returned after 8 hours(escort stayed around merchant wreck) it was still smoking but fully operational.
DD's in shIII stand no chance to torps, now it looks like they need 2, when heavy cruiser takes 3 and goes down instatly. It seems a bit unbalanced here.

Is there option to upgrade sub later in career? I started with pathetic s-18 class

Welcome aboard to the light side!

I never heard of downloads being disabled. Try it again. If you have still trouble, Neal can help.

There's a lot of issues with 1.4. Most of us have upgraded to the u-boat add-on. It upgrades to version 1.5 and corrects a lot of the issues. You can still find mods for 1.4, but it's difficult. Almost all the mods have been written or upgraded for 1.5.

When you say "reload", what do you mean? Is it reload the tubes from the reserves, or what the game calls "refuel/refit?" If reload the tubes from the reserves, I don't have an answer for you. If it's the refit, then the game gives you what you started out with from your home port.

About ship sinking, the stock damage model is strange, there are mods that fix that. Don't try to compare damage from one target to another or one game to another. There are too many variables to consider. The class of ship, where the torpedo or shell hit, the skill level of the AI crew.

There is an option to upgrade boats as your career progresses.

Thanks, downloads do work now ~ 24hr after posting somewhere on the forum.

By reload i mean reload from reserves.

Come on boat under 800 tons torpedo hit in the middle and it stays fully operational.... on the search of damage model mods.

I'll start new career in something better/bigger too.

If you like the game enough to care about all this, I would invest in v 1.5 (U-boat missions or 'Gold Edition'), and find a good selection of mods. All the latest mods are built for v 1.5, so it is very worthwhile to get it.

The stock game leaves much to be desired.
