Wal-Mart futuristic truck

Now this is my kind of truck:http://www.cnbc.com/id/101540310

Quote:
On Friday, Wal-Mart unveiled its futuristic truck at the Mid-America Trucking Show, and it looks like a vehicle out of a Transformers movie. The tractor-trailer, which has taken the Internet by storm, is causing auto geeks to drool with its advanced turbine powertrain, electrified auxiliary components, leading edge aerodynamics, and more.

From what I've read in the forums should it not look more like this?

Looks like someone took an Audi, chopped the roof off, added an extra set of wheels and stuck a futuristic cab on top.

I don't think any respectable gear jammer would be caught dead driving that thing. Except maybe Swamprat69er.

It's really not that different than current models, just a "tad" bit more streamlined, which has to be good for fuel efficiency. There was a show in the 80's I remember about a futuristic looking cab, more like a car, that would pull full sized trailers. My dad was looking into getting new trucks for his company at the time, and all the drivers he talked to who had tested them at conventions and such said they hated it, sat too low to the ground.

^ Do you find current trucks with vertical fronts any more charming?

I have always wondered why trucks seem to need the appearance and air drag of a wall shelf ??!!

B.t.w. old news, Mr. Colani designed such aerodynamic trucks before, and you sometimes see one here, if not often:

And ... consuming a third less fuel is an argument.

OT:
B.t.w. the real former name is Kulani, producer of the naval and police uniforms in Germany since ages (including WW2), Colani is the son's 'artist's' name.

Greetings,
Catfish

That has something to do with the maximum overall length a train is allowed to have (18,75m for semis IIRC). The shorter your tractor the longer your trailer (cargo space) can be. That's why you hardly see a long nose truck in Europe.
