Ever since I started using Real Nav, I've been paying more attention to the sky. But, in doing so, I noticed something was a bit off. Like for instance the way the Big Dipper is turned and where certain constellations are. So once I started looking at where stuff should be I noticed that the game is using my geographic location the plot the stars which kind of bummed me out. So I've included some screens to show what I mean.
Here's the view I see in the game on October 8th, 1939 looking North. ![]() Here's what Stellarium says the sky should look like at the same location and time. ![]() Here's what the night sky at my house looked like last night in North Carolina. ![]() So is that how its always been or is my game not tracking the sky correctly? It just seems odd that it would be showing me my sky regardless of where I am. |

you cant blame the game for what a mod has done.
that said the guy who did it tried his best but maybe he forgot to reposition his sky for the location it is in. ubisoft just put some stars around and a moon but I don't think it did any more then that. they just didn't feel making a real star map was important to a submarine game |

I'm not blaming anyone, just wondering if that's the way its suppose to be. I've heard some others talking about the sky being accurate, which it is just not for that position. I didn't know if I messed something up and made it not track my position.

The sky IS accurate .. the mod seems to use your system locale and date tho. Which is sortof logical. Should be easy to change ..
I'm not sure which mod adds it tho .. is that also TDW's ? |

I honestly never paid attention to the sky int he stock game, mainly cause I didn't play stock long.
I'm wondering if the engine could track the position of the sub, or how accurate it would be given that the world map in the game is not entirely accurate, I believe the scaling is off a bit as well as some other things. I know that the sky moves, since I've seen it move under compression while sitting still. If it loads a sky which is relative to user's geographic location, that must mean that the entire sky has been created, but the question would is if it is one complete sky or several maps and the games loads whichever map your location falls between. Its probably more complicated than it sounds just something I'm curious about. |

The engine knows where you are .. it does not need an accurate sky for that .. it doesnt calculate your possition .. it randomizes your known possition a bit based on several factors when you ask your navigator .. it WOULD present an issue if you where to use the sextant yourself, to calculate your possition, afaik.

That's sort of what I was getting at, if you were to use the stadimeter as a sextant to calculate your position, it could tell you you're halfway around the world. That's why I wonder if its possible to sync the sky with the map so you see the correct one for where the game tells you you're located.
