Default Download Question regarding 7zip files

So I am loving SH5 right now even without the mods. I cannot get the generic mod installer to work and i think it is because everytime i download it, it downloads as a .7z file or jzip.

I am trying to follow the JSGME tutorial video and noticed the guy in it uses winrar (which i have) but he doesn't have jzip or .7z files so i think that is what is screwing me up.

So, does anyone know how i permanently stop my computer from wanting to download everything with .7z extension and just download the file using winrar?

Or can i download it with .7z and still use JSGME and mods? but how do i do it?

Thanks

here is the issue:

winrar will have file corruptions when it unzips a zip file that was zipped using 7zip, i have been "told" this sometimes also happens with winzip as well even though i havent seen that myself.

7zip is a much better file zipping and unzipping program and it is smaller in size with no bloated spam or constant prompts to buy it popping up in it.

most modders use 7zip for these reasons and since most mods are zipped with 7zip its best to switch over to using 7zip for all your file compression needs. as far as using mods go you should ONLY use 7zip to unzip mods.

Here is my update.

Two computers. One has SH5 on STeam and i was unable to get mods to work on that SH5, i thought it may be the 7zip.

Well i bought a downloadable version of the game and put it on a second computer (seperate). That computer also has the 7zip function. I was confused by the mod tutorials because they did not "appear" to be using 7zip. So i thought i was doing it all wrong.

Well i just tried it out, installed jsgme then a couple mods, put them in the mods folder which is inside the sh5 game folder. Ran the jsgme application and moved a couple mods over and they appear to be working in the game now. I am hoping they are stable but time will tell.

Anyways that is my experiment with sh5 and mods, thanks again for the help.

I still cannot get mods to work on the steam version of sh5 btw...oh well.

Webster, I've found out that ZipGenius will also corrupt mod files when extracting them.

7Zip is the only one that does what it's supposed to and does it without breaking anything.
