Default Fresh Install

Computer Crashed while I was in the middle of enabling mods.....trying to figure a couple of things out. This is an auto re install for me since I did not have a back up.

Do the campaign files stay "good" if you do a clean install...or do they get deleted from your documents file...and if no....do they work once I reinstall the game?

How do I prevent this from happening agian? File snap shot before?

if you use jsgme then you shouldnt need to reinstall the game, try this first.

just delete the jsgme "MODS" folder in the main game directory and then run jsgme to replace it and then all you have to do is replace the mods there and reload them to your game.

The problem is....my computer crashed in the middle of Modding the game (in Jsgme). So i'm not really thrilled at the idea of not reinstalling the game. Something funky was going on...like a corrupt file....so I'm thinking its just best to get a clean install. About to do it right now....I was thinking hat my campaign files would not be deleted since they are not part of the SH5 folder....aka Saved under my documents.

a clean install is never a bad thing but often a clean install of jsgme is all that is needed.

if you have been changing mods around then its a good idea at least every now and then to remove the "mods" folder from the game and then replace the mods in it one by one. if you arent changing mods around or anything then its not needed but its a good cleanup thing like anti-spyware or defragging tools.

what you are doing by this is getting rid of the "hidden" backup and saved files there and any possible corruptions they have.

when i do it i move it to the desktop then move the mods back into it but one at a time since if you do a "move all" thing you move the corrupted backup files too which defeats the whole purpose.

corrupted files arent removed when you uninstall so after you uninstall you have to open the program files and delete the leftover files there. you will lose your campaign when you uninstall so in order to try to save it, first remove or rename the folder in documents so its not lost, then after reinstalling copy and paste your saved files and your campaign should still be there but ... if something has changed in the game such as you fixed what was "wonky" then the saved game might be corrupted now since the files are different. but there is a chance it will be ok, good luck with it.

this time make a copy of the stock unmodded fresh install "data" folder, then when you need to do this again all you have to do is delete the data folder you have and replace it with the backup copy. its a whole lot faster and easier then reinstalling the whole game and it replaces all the files that could ever be corrupted by mods

Thanks Webs.... I think my hard drive was corrupted or failing (vertic still pending since unplugging and then replugging the cords seems to have solved it for now). I saved my documents SH5 files on my external HD. I plan to try and reinstall them after re modding to where i was. Roll the dice and see if it works.
