Toured the USS DeWert yesterday. The bridge on that ship isn't much larger than the control room on a modern SSN. And apparently the missile launcher was removed over tens years ago.

Yeah, surface combatant bridges aren't very spacious due to the fact that there's so much equipment and consoles and whatnot. Add in a bunch of sailors and it's getting pretty cramped. |

Yeah the launcher on the remaining FFG's were replaced with the MK38 chaingun. Basically its a remote controlled 25mm and the little platform they made to mount them looks really lazy.
You have to remember the days of the FFG are long gone, even at the time of DW's release. I really wish a DW type game came out with modern hardware. |

Many of the remaining FFGs did not even get the remote 25mm. I served on a FFG out of San Diego and I could only recall one out of three or four that had it. The rest of us had the crew served versions installed on the starboard side for deployments.
I believe the missiles were removed because of maintenance costs and the government wanted to keep a stockpile of missiles for future foreign military sales. Now the massive missile magazine space is used as a mega store room for the supply department. |
