1) In my US campaign, I currently have a Balao Class. The problem I have is, I cannot use the deck gun nor the AA guns. The deck and AA guns show in my damage management, but not in my equipment page. Only the deck gun is shown. Also, neither the deck gun nor the AA guns can be seen in 3D when I am using free cam nor when on the bridge. Manning the stations has no effect and I can't manually control them.

My crew managment also does not reflect the changes made by RFB with regards to Hogan's alley and the conning tower. If I start a new campaign, single mission, war patrol, all these features are available. Any ideas?

2) I am unable to find active sonar when in command of U-boats. I can play without it, but I enjoyed using active sonar especially with the XXI in SH3. I see the button when at the hydrophone station, but alas, it has no function. Any ideas? Am I looking at the wrong place? Is there a key? Is it modeled in SH4UBM?

The mods I am currently using are, in order, RFB -> RSRD -> OM.

I started a campaign in a training flotilla with the Type-XXI. For sonar, it only puts balkongerat by default on the boat. The only equipment available in port to fit on the boat is different radar. The particular campaign is now in Jan '45. I have not seen active sonar available as an upgrade yet, but am sure that it was available earlier than Jan 1945. I clearly recall having active sonar available in SH3, if I am not mistaken, pre 1944. (Kindly correct me if this in incorrect.)

Do you have to fit the upgrade though? If so, when does it become available?

I now remember that I have never seen active sonar on the u-boats in SH4, altough I know they had it during the 1944-45 period. Maybe the developers "forgot" to give them active sonar just like they "forgot" the snorkel...

Btw the submarine you are playing is a XVIII, not an XXI. The XVIII had an experimental propulsion system called the Walter system but the XXI was easier to build. Hehe just wanted to tell you.

Actually, it is the XXI. RFB (or is it OM) removes the Walther boat, and makes the XXI available instead.

It saddens me that I am unable to use active sonar. Loved being at 30m with the XXI and doing tracks with sonar only, then firing some T5's.

I have made some headway regarding the problem with the guns in the Balao, though. I replaced the 5/25 bow and stern with a 4/50 bow only and am now able to crew it and man it myself. Unfortunately no AA guns. In my damage control screen it shows the 2x 40mm guns. In port, it shows no AA mounts nor allows me to change the guns.

Okidoki, while patrolling off the marianas, I flipped through the F1 Help screen. Lo and behold in the hydrophone section it states that u-boats only had passive listening, while US boats had both active sonar and listening hydrophones. So problem regarding sonar resolved, U-boats don't get em.

My question though is, is that accurate? Did U-boats not have active sonar in WW2?
