Emergency!

I uninstalled SH3 so i could have multiple installs. I was heading in that direction. I installed it, but hit cancel for the Gameshadow install. Then i tried to patch it. But it said that my Campaign .mis file was an unknown version and it wont patch. I tried running the install to repair the install. It said "Fatal Error" and told me to contact microsoft support.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?

Did you delete the SH3 folder from My Documents and run a registry cleaner? Leftovers from the previous install can mess things up with the new one.

I deleted all related SH3 folders in My Documents.

I will try again.

EDIT:

Same result. Am i supposed to let the Gameshadow Install finish? Can i get detailed Step-by-step instructions on how to do this? It has been awhile since i did this.

Unfortunately, uninstalling software on a Win machine leaves more in the registry than even the KGB could cope with. Perhaps try something like RevoUninstaller and choose the Bring On The Brooms & Hoses It's Spring Cleaning option. You'll be dizzy seeing how much garbage the stock uninstallers leave.

Cleaning the registry should do the trick. No need to install Gameshadow. If nothing else helps, reinstalling the whole Windows should take care of the problem. But there should be no need for that either, it's most likely registry problems.. Hope you get it sorted out.

Unless you are extremely intimate with the registry, I strongly suggest NOT messing with it manually. If you mess it up then your pc will likely die in a cataclysmic explosion, entire countries will vanish and Celine Dion will be on every radio station 24/7 so don't go there.

What you CAN do, as long as you resist any urge to edit, delete or spray happy faces all across the reg entries, is to run regedit.exe. Go to Start and hit "Run...", type regedit.exe and once there go to the tool bar and Edit, then Find.

In the box that appears, type any plausible search words like sh3, silent hunter etc etc, and see if anything shows up. Anything will show up but it will be nice to know.

There are reg cleaning programs, iirc CrapCleaner is one that is free, another one with reg cleaning tools is AShampoo but that is not free. Been ages since I messed with any of that so do a google search for any good reg cleaners.

did you have mods installed before you uninstalled SH3?
did you uninstall the mods first, and then SH3?

edit: also, are you sure you're running the correct patch for your particular installation?

Also after you uninstall you have to go to the location where SH3 was installed and delete anything left there. The uninstaller tends to leave text files behind that have to be deleted, or they will interfere with the patching process.

I didnt think to uninstall mods before uninstalling. I was running GWX3 plus mod soup. I deleted the files in the UBISOFT folder, but sometimes they are still there...when i'm installing, those folders show up in the directory.

uninstall sh3 again, and then delete the entire ubisoft folder before attempting to reinstall. if there's items in there you think you may want to get back, you can always just copy it somewhere else before deleting it.

good luck !

Great News.

It had nothing to do with mods or leftovers from another install.

I tried running the patch at different times in the install, and i got it. Right before i hit finish, i install the patch. It is working now.

I wanna try out that Silent Hunter 3 Retarded mod.....
