Germany decides sharp objects and babies do not go together

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-2...g-boys/4096998

Jewish and Muslim groups have protested after a German court banned the circumcision of young boys for religious reasons, in the first ruling of its kind in the country.

According to the court ruling, "the fundamental right of the child to bodily integrity outweighs the fundamental rights of the parents".

Norway currently had a debate on this, with a Central Party member voicing his desire for the banning of circumcision, but led nowhere, at least not for now. Good to see somebody is one step ahead!

The only thing I have to add is Go Germany!

First, the court ruling does not limit the parents fundemental general rights, but explicitly refers to the parents' fundamental religious rights. That is a small but very important difference.

Germany also has a mandatory duty to send children to schools, homeschooling for religious reasons or others, is not allowed, and past court sentences were accordingly. I recall three cases from the past 15 years or so, and in all three cases the parents got legally prosecuted. Sentences included financial and prison sentences, and children taken away from parents' households.

Germany - Norway 1:0
