Default How to classify contacts?

So I'm back into in-depth (no pun intended lol) simulations. How I passed up this gem is beyond me. I guess I didn't get a good grip on what the game was going to be like through the initial advertising years ago.

~ Anyways ~

I used to play a lot of Janes F-18, Longbow, and F-15 so the naval stuff is a bit of a learning curve for me. I've read some good guides on how to find tracks, but really having a hard time classifying them.

Background information:
Typically I like to use / control MH-60, Orion, or the FFG. I play random Korean water missions and I typically drop DIFAR in a 2-3 mile spread and put on directional modes. I can find the contacts for the most part and use some active stuff if I feel I need to be a bit more sure, but what do I need to look at / do to classify the track?

Any advice would be great ~

Also I just installed what I believe to be the latest RA mod as well.

Cheers ~

If you are new to this sim, I'd encourage you to not use any mods; especially the RAD-mod does change a lot of detection ranges , also of sonar bouys.

hmm - ok - i guess i can revert back -

have been playing the ffg for the past couple days - so far the best way i know to classify contacts is by using difar and then finding a row of dots with at least three dots and just simply select the first option from the library that comes up.

been playing quick mission, but i think i might start making missions - seems like quick missions drop you right into it and dont even give you time for a run up to a situation - i like to have realistic loading / aircraft launch times set with wind and what not...

are there better ways to classify a track though?
good link to a tutorial??

yep ~ went there and grabbed some stuff ~ really don't know what i'm looking at lol ~ way too noob to understand alot of the charts and what not. most of the stuff it seems is created for subs, and i'm trying to get familiar with the ffg / mh-60 / orion. applied to seawolves ~ they are a pretty good group of guys...hoping to get some training missions in with them.

I would begin with the MH60, it is the easiest platform to control.
Then;

1-Play the game
2-Read the tutorials and forums
3-Go to step 1

Regards

The lowest frequency is the loudest. So can be heard/detected the earliest. But it is a frequency that is common to alot of contacts. So it can only be used to identify that something is there on that bearing. You'll need the higher frequencies to set the different kinds of classes appart and identify the class.

So in short, you need to search all these 5 frequencies, of those contact that are important to you.

You mean this one?

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=3403

Anyway, it's not made by "Key" or whoever it is you mean. It's made by Heinrich Liebe.

Ok, wasn't aware if this. It's nice, until Kegety's site goes down. I'd rather have a program that I can run offline.

To open .rar files you can install and archive extraction program, like: WinRAR or 7Zip, WinZip.
