I'm new to SH4, but have been playing SH3 for probably 6 years. I just bought SH4 off of Steam because I now have a computer that will run it properly, and I'm just wondering which of the mods are must-haves? And I'm curious to know if there is a crew fatigue model in SH4 like there was in SH3, and if so, can you edit it so there is no fatigue? If you're wondering why I don't know this already, it's because I'm still downloading SH4 off of Steam(my connection is pathetic, upgrading on Tuesday) so I haven't had a chance to play it yet. I just want to know in advance so I can do the tweaking before I start a new game.

Crew Fatigue in SH4 is what it should have been in SH3, and is based on a recommendation from an SH3 player. The crew is divided into three watch shifts, and they rotate themselves every four or six hours, I'm not sure which as I don't pay attention when I don't have to. The only time you have to worry about them is when you leave them at GQ for too long. Oh yes, you call General Quarters when you're going into combat and they all go on duty, and each lead position is taken over by the ranking officer or man for that position, and some extra guys show up turning wrenches and stuff. If you forget to secure from GQ they'll stay there until they drop. They're real good at following orders.

Best Mods? There's Real Fleet Boat, which strives to be technically accurate. There's Trigger Maru Overhauled, which intentionally makes things a little hard on the premise that if everything is spot on it becomes too easy to know things you wouldn't know for sure in real life. There's Fall Of The Rising Sun, which adds new ships and other stuff I don't really know about. There's Game Fixes Only, which fixes problems with the game but doesn't attempt to change anything. For any of them there is also Run Silent, Run Deep Campaign, which changes all the Japanese traffic to match historical movements.

And there's Operation Monsun, which turns the U-Boat Missions Add-On into a full-blown Atlantic Campaign.

This is kind of off topic, but while I was editing the Basic.cfg file I noticed they have all the same Subs from SH3, but I don't see any for SH4. I'm also wondering how I can edit the amount of ammo I have for the deck gun. I tried doing it in Basic.cfg but it didn't carry over into the game. While looking through all the mods in the downloads section I never noticed a more ammo mod like there is for SH3, is that because there isn't one, or is it somewhere else?

How do you go to general quarters? Is there a keyboard shortcut or is it just a clickable order?

Edit: Also, is there a utility similar to SH Commander for SH4?

I'm sure a shortcut could be created, but I just use the HUD. Go to the Sub Managment Tab (clipboard, third tab from the right) and then click the Battlestations Tab (first yellow one, fourth from left). Be in the control room the first time you do it.

Sadly, no. Commander's creator, JScones, refused to do one for SH4, and no one else has bothered.

Will do. Thanks.

That sucks. I love SH Commander. Best thing to ever happen to SH3.

Anyone else know how to edit the deck gun ammo? Like I said in my previous post, I tried editing it but the ammo stayed the same. And I'm confused as to why there are subs in the basic.cfg file from SH3, and I'm not seeing any from SH4.
