Early on here in my latest campaign as I still play around with mods, I encountered bad weather nearly the entire length of one of my runs. I basically just headed home. It was 15 knots wind speed the whole way. I am wondering if there are any options when you encounter something like that? Can you wait it out? Sorry don't have the length of time but I believe it was a few days. I felt like an empty soda can. - Type 2

Unfortunately, the Atlantic can be quite hellish and storms lasting over a week are not uncommon. The winter is even worse. So a few days is nothing and you should have waited it out.

I try to spend as much time below the surface as possible. I THINK its less of a workload on my crew, and it saves a ton of fuel that I try to put to use when the storm finally passes. You could always take your chances and relocate in the North Sea, where things are comparatively calmer but at the cost of fewer juicy targets.
The Atlantic is crazy unpredictable. One patrol I remember a storm lasting for 2 weeks, but on my the next patrol the Western Approaches were like glass for all of December (I thought the game was broken!). |

Roger that mates. The waiting and be the hardest part.
Speaking of waiting, I just hit a ship then followed her for hours (game time). I would say at least 4hrs if not more. I finally got tired of waiting and fired another torp at her. Somehow it misfired/blew up. I had to fire a third torp to finally send her down. Talking about compounding your problems. GEEZ ![]() |

I stay under as much as possible during storms. Your hydrophone operator can hear farther than the watch crew can see during storms.

Best thing is to sit it out and wait. Although in the later part of the war you'll be praying for bad weather to hide you from air attack.

Just be careful to avoid shallow water in severe storms. I was outside of a harbor I was planning to raid (I forget which one - it was a long time ago) and as the water was shallow, I decided just to bottom the boat and wait until nightfall. Well, I start getting reports that I'm taking damage and with no escorts around, I was a bit confused.
Turns out that a storm picked up and my boat was being scraped along the ocean floor. When I figured it out, all I could think was how incredible this game (SH3/GWX) really is.

I dive... motor along at "kleine voraus" until my O2 level falls to 18% (usually about 3.5 to 4 hours... Using H.Sie's O2 mod) Then surface, air out the boat and recharge the batteries which usually takes about 15 minutes or so...
Lather, rinse, repeat until the weather improves. Sailing around on the surface in poor visibilty may get you jumped by a anti-submarine vessel. Better to listen submerged. Besides, it will give you practice for those long Biscay transits after 1942. Salute, AD |

Thanks for all the input guys. Well appreciated. I will go and check out that thread. Yes this game is incredible. But what fatigue models are you using?
I am using GWX 8hr. ![]() |

I used that one for ages, but I grew tired of the constant 'micro-managing' so I've switched to no fatigue. I still rotate the crew periodically, but now I do it when it's convenient for me rather than when I have to.

The weather in SH3 (and SH$ &5) is broken. Use H.sei's fix to improve this bug.
