Default Whodunnit?

I'm waiting for this convoy to show up, I'm bored, so I go to take pictures. I find this...

I've never even seen a friendly on the western approaches... any ideas how this may have happened?

Convoy is outbound, looks like from Bristol, BF41, 5/13/41.

Are you using GWX?

I think GWX sometimes scripts damaged ships into the convoys to simulate previous attacks by AI u-boats.

I ran into a damaged escort trailing a convoy once and after I made my night surface attack on the main body I circled back and put her out of her misery with my last fish.

That aside, I think if I was the CO of that ship I would be going full ASTERN until we got that fire out!

I am indeed running GWX. I must say, any CO that has a fire like that going and is still sweeping for the enemy, they must have to walk around with a wheelbarrow in front of them all the time.

Intelligence in object avoidance is hard to find in SH3 ships. (unless it comes to torpedos )So most likely it bumped into things during leaving the harbor, or maneuvering to the next waypoint. It might also just have been unlucky to negotiate right of way with a ignorant merchant that sailed on it's own.

Or it might have been the victim of an aerial attack by friendly planes that happend to be in the vicinity.

Sorry, no definite answer to this. Did they leave an autograph?

GWX does have some convoys scripted with AI subs attacking them until they are sunk by the escorts. That is most likely what happened to your destroyer. Bad weather does play havoc with the smaller escorts and tramp steamers, causing damage and sinking them most times.

There are no damaged ships scripted into convoys in GWX...the answer will almost certainly be down to one of the three below.

Attack from an AI Sub
Attack from the air
Weather/storm damage

A fourth possibility could be mine damage but you don't say precisely where she was located, also a minefield would need to be within 50km of your position (SH3 world rendering range).

Thanks for all the ideas! That grid square... It's hard to anchor a mine in water a klick deep, and it's aways from port. Also, we'd been on a sheet of glass for three days prior. That leaves air or sub attack... and now that I look closer again I note scorch marks on the outside of the bow well up from the waterline. It is also within range of that nice new base at Brest. Air attack likely.

So you mean to say we have actual photographic evidence of Hermann's boys doing something right?
