I was chasing down a convoy in my type IIa (second mission of the war) when I had to turn away from the convoy as a destroyer started heading my way. I also dropped the speed to ahead standard. After the destroyer turned back towards the convoy I came back on course and gave the command for ahead flank.
Nothing happened. The engines shut down, and soon I was adrift. I tried submerging, the electric motors started and I tooled along for a while, then surfaced. No diesels again. The engine room crew was fine. Fatigue was not a factor. The commands were acknowledged, but nothing happened, not even a "Unable to comply" message. I tried adding more crew and an officer to the engine room, nothing worked. Then after trying everything else I clicked on the "Return to course" button. The helm answered, and the engines start working again! I was then able to manually deviate from the plotted course and continue chasing the convoy. Has anyone seen this behavior before? I am running GWX Gold. |

Sometimes when I order all stop I have to put the diesels into reverse for a very short time before they will register any ahead input. Other than that, I can't help I'm afraid.

Had it happen a couple times. No clue why.
As has been said, just think of it as engine start problems. ![]()

Several possible reasons. Are you using SH3 Commander? If so, do you have Malfunctions/Sabotage turned on? If so, sometimes the engines lose flank speed, but you can still travel at lower settings. If it's too much then saving and reloading the game will fix it.
If you are not using Commander, or have those functions turned off, then Tinman's solution might work for you.

I have experienced something similar when on the bridge, but changing stations then back again normally cures it and the engines start.

this has happened to me twice this week... all my crew are in place but the diesels won't run no matter what i do.
even screaming "get this boat moving you buch of useless tw*ts" at the PC screen did nothing to motivate them ![]() i put it down to a game bug as 2 of my officers are bugged and they never get tired anymore. very handy for the long journeys ahead ![]() |
