Default A GWX question

how do you re-enable renown when you get to the patrol area? for me it just makes the game seem sort of pointless, becuse you can do whatever you want.

In the basic.cfg file there is the following lines:
Quote:

[RENOWN]
RenownReachGridObjCompleted=0
RenownPatrolGridObjCompleted=0
Just set those to whatever values you feel is appropiate to justify you hanging around. I go for 250/500.

Get to know this file, there's a lot of tweaks you can do to make the game more enjoyable for you.

To be more specific:

The first line is for how much renown you get just for going to the assigned grid.

The second line is for how much renown you get for patrolling there for the "required" 24 hours.

Goes without saying that you should make a backup copy of the "basic" basic.cfg in case you ever make a bad edit that gives you problems, or at the very least just as a reference.

If you use SH3 Commander you can also use the "Static Settings.cfg" file in its Cfg folder to make selected edits to the basic.cfg only when you launch the game via Commander (if you open the file, there are instructions on how to set it up right at the top). And if you have auto-rollback selected in the Commander options, it undoes the edits when you exit the game - so you always have the original file in place if you need to refer to it in between gaming sessions. That's become the only way I make those kinds of edits.

Good to know this, I think I'll re-enable it too (but only for reaching the grid)

Is there also a way to re-enable the hull integrity display in GWX?

I believe there is an option for this in Commander, to either show or hide the hull integrity %. The default is to hide it so you have to go in and change that if you want it to show up in the game.

Frau's belief is correct. Click 'SH3 Options' (the wrench at the bottom of the Commander screen) and choose the third option 'Text Settings'. There will find the option to show or hide 'Hull Integrity'.

Aaah, I knew of this option in SHIII, but thought GWX overrules it anyway. How silly of me to not even try it

Well, welcome to the club. I make it a habit to do stupid/crazy/silly things every chance I get.

Default How do U open These Files

First, do these files open up or do U need another program to open them,... the ones for changing renown. Second, I am on like my 7th patrol, my men have quite a bit experiance and have yet to recieve promotions. What is this about??? I remember in VANILLa they would GET promotions when THEIR experiance went above certain levels.

A .cfg should be just a text file, you can open it in Notepad.

If you are using SH3 Commander, you can promote them within their class whenever they have enough experience.

Otherwise, with stock or GWX, the game will offer you promotions at the end of fairly successful patrols.

Stock, as far as I remember, does not automatically promote people. It simply gives you a few use-it-or-lose-it chances.

Default Thank U!!!

U are very gracious with Ur knowledge. I do use commander, but out of 7 patrols with a IIA and a IID, I've managed to sink around 63,000 tons. Historically that would probably be amazing. But O'well, I'll take what they give me. Maybe after I complete a regular campain in GWX, which I know is unrealistic because of the length of a career, I will try the Commander. If I am right, I think it gives U like what, a 2 year career??....

Commander is well worth a try...believe me it can enhance the game to quite a substantial degree.

It does give you a realistically short career, but that is an option you can turn on and off, and even if you have it turned on it gives you an option to "unretire" and go back to service.

It also lets you promote crew and give them medals and qualifications, as many as you want instead of the one that SH3 does.

It lets some crew leave the ship, and new ones come aboard, without costing you any renown. Sometimes they leave due to transfers, and sometimes for..."other reasons".

It will give your new captain an appropriate German name if you want, and there are over 1.7 billion crew names possible, so you won't see the same names over and over.

It lets you adjust the reload speed of the deck gun.

It gives a real name to every ship you sink, and it lists what cargo the ship was carrying, and how many crew were aboard and how many died.

It lets you turn the Hull Integrity meter on and off.

It does a lot of other things, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

As Jimbuna says: SH3 Commander - don't leave port without it.
