Default Graphics / Resolution

Hello all. I have been following this forum for a while and I love the community as a whole. It's so much better than others I've participated in. My question is about the graphics in SH3. I just installed GWX and I'm wondering if there are any ways to improve the graphics. For one thing, I have a large widescreen monitor and the game will not change resolutions to accommodate this. I've read about changing the settings in the config file but I have Windows 7. Is this going to screw it up?

In general, the grey wolves mod seems great and I'm excited to get into it but I was hoping for a bigger jump in graphics. I have an up to date computer for the most part, (slightly old video card Geforce 7950 GT) but it seems it's not my hardware holding me back. Is there an application or anything I can download to bump up the graphics as well as resolution? Thank you.

Welcome aboard!

Click on the Downloads link above and to the left.

Go the Silent Hunter III section, do a search for Res Fix.

There is a Res Fix mod that will allow you to reconfigure the game to play in a different resolution than what you get "out of the box."

Also a good idea to print out or copy down the instructions on the page for the download, as I'm not sure they are as detailed and complete in the readme that comes with the mod itself.

Most people can get the game to run in their preferred resolution without too much extra tinkering. I use it to run the game at 1400x1050 on my 1680x1050 monitor, this retains the native aspect ratio and gets as good a res as possible without stretching any of the 2D graphics out to fill up a widescreen's worth of space.

There are also some WS mods availabe altho I have not tried any so far, you will find threads about them in the SH3 Mods Workship Forum.

Thanks Frau, I didn't even see the downloads link before. Maybe because I wasn't registered on the forum?

Don't know, but if it's there now, you'll find lots of other neat stuff there as well.

Hello g|-|0$t,

I believe the download to the resolution fix would be http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1092

At least this is the fix I use. I run the resolution at 1680 x1050 in the config file and also hit the 4:3 ratio button on my monitor itself to bring it back to the right size on the monitor, so my dials are round etc.
