Default u-93 the game version, renown and things

Ive been onto uboat.net doing some research into the real u-93, as Im currently aboard u-93 in my SH3c campaign.

http://uboat.net/flotillas/7flo.htm

The game it seems has accurately portrayed her existance as from Kiel, although im sure my game boat is with the 2nd Flot, and not the 7th as she was in R/L.

Her R/L counterpart transferred to St Nazaire in June 1941 and Im at 06/1941 in my game career now. I am wondering if I'll end up staying in Kiel as she's with the second.

Leads me to my next question. IF i don't achieve anything in terms of renown or game reputation by returning to base, then that should mean I am free to put into any german-run base, shouldn't I?

I'm not sure GWX or any other mod attempts to accurately portray the RL careers, bases, flotillas, etc. of specific u-boats. The only thing I know of that may come close is to select "use historic u-boat availability" or whatever it's called in Commander, which AFAIK only limits you to the particular u-boat types/numbers that would have been available at the start of your career given your selected start date and flotilla.

AFAIK the starting base is determined only by your choice of flotilla, not the boat number. Altho I've never started a career outside of Commander, so it's possible GWX assigns boat numbers based on flotilla and the numbers are historically accurate. Can you even choose your boat number w/out going through Commander?

Nevertheless, once you've started the career it's not like you're going to be limited to the whats/wheres/whens of the RL boat with the same boat number.

Oh, and the reason to return to your home base even though you don't get renown for it, is that if you don't dock there the game doesn't recognize that you returned to your base of operations, only that you docked at some other facility. Whether this means you can't perform certain in-base functions like crew management, I'm not sure... it does if you put in at a supply ship, don't know about alternate German bases.

Edit: and in the game the 2nd Flotilla transfers to Lorient in the fall of 1940 (September, IIRC). I'm confused though how you're based in Kiel with the 2nd Flotilla, as all my careers in the 2nd have had me running out of Wilhelmshaven. I've never been assigned to Kiel with that flotilla.

Actually if you dock at another base/friendly port the only things it won't let you do is change your torpedo loadout and add upgrades. Once you finish and dock and are put into the room leave the desk so you're standing in the room and click on the file cabinet. It'll open up the crew management allowing you to give out medals, promotions or dismiss/add new crew members.

If you start the game in the 7/13th flotilla which puts you in koinsburg it is possible to get transfered to St. Nazaire w/o having to make 2 transfer requests. Once your base changes from Koinsburg to Kiel the game will give you a message asking that you transfer to another flotilla; you can ignore that and remain in the 7/13th flotilla at Kiel if you prefer. Though Lorient and Brest open sooner, when St. Nazaire becomes operational it'll transfer your home port to it like it did irl.

Oh, entirely possible, but all things considered I would have an even lower expectation of historical accuracy regarding specific boats if we're talking about the stock game.

Of course I played stock for about ten minutes total, so what do I know?

I am now doubting that my initial posting about what flotilla i'm in and it's validity. I Know I AM based out of Kiel, butPerhaps I'm not based in the second flotilla!

One thing I do know is that I AM using GWX 3.0 AND SH3 commander for my campaign.

I wont get to check this until late tonight when I finally get home for first time in 48hrs and the first time to play my campaign since sunday!

I'm not getting enough campaign time!

Stock SH3 doesn't have the Second Flot at all until the French ports open up.

In GWX the flotillas do move at the correct dates, or at least close. The 1st and 7th are at Kiel (7th is at Konigsberg but moves at the start of the war) and the 2nd is at Wilhelmshaven. Unfortunately there are no Type IXs at the start, as there were historically.

Just to nitpick, Type IXs would be there historically. But not Type IXBs that the game models

[edit: although if you mean 2nd flottilla, you're right, the Type IXs were not with the 2nd at the start of the war]

I've checked my SH3 commander and I'm actually with the first! Which means I am going to shortly expect a move to brest within the next month of my career
