My theory on the missing harbors etc
I think the problem some people have with this game is not enough video card memory . http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...04&postcount=4 |

I agree Sober
I think all the "sometimes missing" things could all be caused by mem issues:- Depth under keel No nav officer call outs Missing harbours http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...92&postcount=5 |

That's because the video card memory uses the same 2GB of virtual memory as the game uses, so you will have less memory for the game. As a conclusion, this will only avoid errors/crashes, and only works on 32bit systems (with more positive impact for vista/win7 uses). From the post,
If you have windows vista/7, the more video RAM you have, the more your harbors will disappear ! (as paradoxical as it can be....) That's because the video card memory uses the same 2GB of virtual memory as the game uses, so you will have less memory for the game. So I'd think increaseing the virtual memory area would help with Windows 7 32 bit Users? Windows 7 64 bit Users are not affected by this I read the post to mean. |

i dont have problems with harbors missing but the docks arent rendered until your "much" closer then the ships and harbors so your unobstructed very long range shot at a docked ship has a pier or dock appear in its way like magic to catch your torpedo and you've wasted it.
this situation hasnt changed even thou i went from win xp with 2gb ram to my vista + 4gb ram upgrade. all i got was prettier views ![]() i think sober is right about what some people mean by problems with the harbor rendering issue, its just there are other rendering issues that are game related too. ships are rendered and can be seen at the greatest distance, then land formations, then harbors, and the last to be rendered and at what i feel is too short a distance will the dock/pier finally show up. |

I'm having the Depth under keel and No nav officer call outs problem. Really the same problem. Its a roll of the dice when its going to happen. I haven't been able to pin down the cause. I uninstalled all mods and still got it. So now all the mods are back on. Including Speech fixes and additions (german version).
windows 7 64 bit 4G ram video card ATI 4890 w/1G memory For me it's an annoyance. Whenever I load up I go through a silly series of game steps; 1) check Depth under keel bug 2) unchecked mouse tips 3) unchecked TC tips 4) unchecked nav map mouse tips 5) click patrol orders ! 6) wet nurse Benno |

Yes there is.
The GR2 files for SH5 have some imbedded. I've not messed with them but I can edit them. I'll be looking at likely subjects for testing this. |

Just on another subject , i am sure there was a patch for sh4 that addressed the sinking ships in the distance . The ships are suppose to fade into the background , not look like they are sinking in sh5 . any ideas ?
