Default (REG) Fix contact zones.

One of the most unrealistic problem I have with this game is it appear to have one contact zone around the sub based on the ships best equipment.
The reason we get lag when we come into contact, but the men can't pick it up because they don't have the equipment or skills yet. The same reason we can loudly hear ships on sonar our men can't.

Anyone think it possible to correct this so you only come in contact based on the limitations of the ship. I

May be nice to cheat and search sonar when you get lag, but totally unreal. It really screws up the limitations of the equipment.

Hope that makes sense...

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but I feel that if I could hear a contact, my men should as well, no matter how faint. I don't know if the game mimics the limitations of sound transmission due to differing sea conditions ect , but if I could hear it, they should

More or less, but in reverse, you should't be able to hear contacts that you're crew cannot. The reason they don't report sonar contacts that you can clearly hear is because game wise they operating under the limitations of the equipment on board, you don't have this limitation because of the one contact zone around the ship. Take the early war sonar subs carry, I think it has a limitation of about 5000 yards, yet you can still hear contacts 30,000 yards, thus you can use this cheat to go find the ships.

One, you misunderstand the way the ranges work. The values are not some absolute range. It is the range at which the detection time is doubled, or some other abstraction. The numbers are tweaked until detection feels right. Replacing all those values with some "max range" off wiki or something will not work.

This is the nightmare of modding. Change something, then test like crazy, exit, disable mod, tweak, repeat. Go insane.

I understand the idea, and basically agree, though. Some want the player to have to do this work himself. I want my crew to do their jobs properly, and be presented with the data to make decisions.

For sure! I agree 100%. If it could be heard, it should be heard by all. It looks like a tough, if not impossible fix though
