Joke.
UBisoft kills SH series with poor Silent Hunter 5. Poor SH5 generates poor profit.not be cheaper price by deleting DRM instead cheaper price). Of course this game is very good but have too many mistakes or bad ideas. At SH4 was poor ADV mode (the best mode for SH2/DC)... but it was. At SH5? None. What do you want to do at multiplayer mode at SH6? Wolfapcks? What do you want to do at campaign at SH6? There are no convoys... Only possible missions can with NATO/USSR battle groups randevous, but... which Silent Hunter allow to play at both sides? None ! (uboat misssion was only add-on). Look at bugs for SH3, SH4 and SH5. Do you think that SH6 will be bug-free? Yeah, sure, it will be... ![]() I could accept only VII class, end game at 43, bad interface... ...but I cannot accept bugs and no patches for game. Dangerour Waters 2 - of course, SH6 - not for me, sorry.

I don't think Ubisoft has the intention to create a true subsim using the SH series. We have seen a constant downfall of quality since SH3. If SH6 is to be made by Ubisoft, it'll probably be even worse than SH5 (given the actual philosophy of the company)... No doubt that a PC game has some bugs when it is published. But with SH5, the amount of bugs is so tremendous that one can only believe that no testing at all has been made. Playing the unpatched game for 15min reveals a myriad of bugs that should have corrected. So I truly wish that Ubisoft sell the franchise to another company which could make the best out of it. I don't think that the devs were sub enthusiasts or history lovers, and you can feel that in their game. |

Whilst I do think the devs had a keen interest in their subject, (just check out any of Elenaiba's technical posts to see that) I think we have probably seen the last of the Silent Hunter series and perhaps the last subsim from a major league publisher. The amount of work vs the sales generated does not seem to fit the current business models of the big publishers who are now intent on driving down the casual road.

It sure was a good idea to try to attract more new players to this kind of game. I perfectly understand Ubisoft's choice to create a more "casual", arcade game for newcomers.
What I don't really understand is why they didn't create two difficulty levels: one for novices and one for experienced subsimmers... And if one wants to attract new customers, one would obviously create a decent manual for them... Not to mention DRM/server issues, making the game impossible to play unless you are connected to internet... |

![]() In a German gaming magazine there was an article a few days ago and it reported that today a top game cost 20-25 million Euros in development. It was further reported that the maximum cost share per sold game should not be higher than 15 Euros and the game must have sold at least two million units to produce profit for the publisher. Remember Ubisoft told that the whole Silent Hunter series (SH2-SH4) under Ubisoft publishing only sold 1.5 milions units together.
