Why won't crew auto-fire?

Hi guys I've had DW (patched to 1.04) for a couple of years but have not had time to get deeply into it yet, but one thing puzzles me so far-why don't my Perry crew automatically fire the main gun and Standards at incoming enemy missiles? (eg Styxes)
The CIWS auto-fires at them just fine,(and the Perry auto-pops flares/chaff) but I have to manually assign individual Styx targets to the main gun and Standards, otherwise they won't fire/launch.
It all wastes precious time to manually assign tagets in a flurry of mouse-clicking.
