Having read a lot of books about US subs in PTO, wondering if any good ones about British subs? Any of the skippers write memoirs after war?

One of my all-time-favorites-books is "One of Our Submarines" by Edward Young, Commander, D.S.O., D.S.C., R.N.V.(S.)R. from 1953 (pre-ISBN).
Latest one is "The History of the British 'U'-Class Submarine" by Derek Walters (damn you, Keltos! ![]() Anti-Sub-related: "Escort Commander" by Terence Robertson. It's the story of Captain Frederic John Walker CB, DSO and three Bars, RN. and is highly recommend. |

"Unbroken: the story of a submarine"
Reviews herehttp://www.amazon.co.uk/Unbroken-Sto...pr_product_top I found it fascinating for the honesty about his own reduction in combat sharpness as stress and fatigue mounted, mission upon mission. He actually had to persuade his superiors he was burnt out. Contrast that with the punch-drunk spitfire pilot in "At First Light" who had to be grounded by his superiors. I've read "Escort Commander" too - fascinating. |
