Default What's up with these S-type subs? Kryptonite zombies?

Chugging home off the coast of France, May 40. Crew sights an "S type" sub at 8300 to starboard. I can't see it, but turn away to give zero profile. Heavy seas, but broad daylight.

Suddenly my damage board lights up like a Christmas tree. I did a fast look, and that was the only thing around. I got the boat down to P-depth, and it all fixed fast enough. No crew hits.

But from an S-boat at 8300? That's over the horizon for a U-boat, so that's some mad magic.

It sure would be one heck of a lucky shot (from his standpoint).

The brits had no hesitations about firing 6 torpedo salvos at uboats though.
This could make a big difference.

Sounds like he torpedoed you, the simulated ai torpedos are just invisible vary large guns so its like being fired at by a battleship.

You have to treat ai subs and torpedo boats like you would when encountering an enemy battleship, if you can see him, he can probably see you and he will open fire.

That is all you need to know,if he is visible therefore so are you,if in doubt get under!

What are these simulated AI torpedoes you speak of?

What version of the game and mods is desirableroasted using?

I am using GWX 3.0Gold.

The crew saw the S class, reported it. I could not see it from the bridge but the "lock" key "saw" it at 8300. I turned tail to it and still got hammered.

Once we started taking hits, I had us below... the damage was light so I have a hard time believing it was torpedoes. But I also find it hard to believe I was getting accurately deck gunned from 8300.

The AI subs in GWX3.0 don't have AI torpedoes, only deck guns are able to engage an enemy.

Well, a deck gun is more than enough, apparently. I have a pretty crack deck gun crew, but if I had that S-boat's crew, I could have them fart in the general direction of England and sink every Black Swan in the fleet.

By the way, just got home from the cruise.... I guess they were just shooting light birdshot, because my HI came in at 94%, even though they damaged just about every compartment.

Torpedo at 8300? And target uboat moving away, at that? How long would it take the torp to reach the target (assuming it even had that sort of range)?

A deck gun sounds much more plausible (and wouldn't need the same amount of luck, either - how would the S-boat know exactly when the uboat turned away from them?).
