SOLVED: 'Semi-auto' TDC?

Hello all

I've just started playing SHIII with GWX 3.0 Gold, and I find myself looking for a mod or a way of doing 'semi-auto' TDC. I'm too scared to go full-on Realism Mode but want something a bit more engrossing than the 'fire and forget' that fully automatic TDC does.

I like the idea of using the ID manual to identify the target, and I don't mind holding course / range / speed while the targeting solution is calculated for me by the Weapons Officer. Is there a way to do this? Some kind of combination of options or mod?

Manual target ID, but WO-assisted targeting solution?

Many thanks in advance

If you select manual targeting, but keep weapons officer assistance in the realism options you can acheive this.

You can then identify the target yourself and use the orders interface to ask the WO to calculate the firing solution. If you are unsure about the target recognition, you can also ask the WO ti identify the target.

With these options selected, you are also free to calculate the firing solution yourself - so you have the best of both worlds.

Edit: The option for him to calculate the firing solution is accessed by clicking on the WO's image at the bottom left of the screen, a number of options will come up, and you click on the 'calculate firing solution' order. If you want to personally identify the target, do so before making the WO calculate the solution, otherwise his calculation may be imprecise.

Thanks guys

I swear I have tried Manual TDC + WE Assistance, and it was immediately showing me the target ID as soon as I put the periscope/UZO on it... I'll try again and tell you how I got on

I'm currently off Aberdeen on my first GWX patrol, hanging about and waiting for war to be declared Ho hum... at least the weather has cleared up -- the North Sea crossing was absolutely foul!

It will give you a rough desctiption straight away - like 'destroyer' or 'tanker' but not specific like 'V&W Destroyer' - at least, that's what should be happening! You can then look up the specific vessel type.

Good luck

Yes, the WE is perfect. I counter that by raising the scope several times (giving them a better chance to spot it) and leaving it up as long as I think it would take a good operator to get the solution.

You might also want to try this mod. It adds greatly to the immersion.

Yes! Manual TDC + WE Assistance is working great -- just what I wanted! I am sure I tried that combination of settings before, but perhaps that was before I installed GWX...

Now for that "Assisted Plotting Mod" mod....
