recognition manual

...having played sh3 for many years i decided to have a go at near 100% realism as poss. so when i opened the recognition manual to find a merchant i had sighted there were none there. it is mainly the war ships.

i know about the merchant/war flags you click on to open each section, but the merchant section has the same as the war section. and yet when i have been playing with the weapon officer on all i have to do is click 'ship' when sighted and there is the merchant i have spotted. but i can not get this up when i play on my own ( no pun intended!)

is there a file missing from my game. hope ive made myself clear.

in other words there are no merchants in the manual when i play without weapons officer.

So when you open the 'merchants'/'handelsschiffe' section of the recognition manual, there are only warships shown?

That sounds bizarre! Are you using any mods? Also, any chance of a screenshot? I have not heard of this before.

yes, thats right, in both sections. and yet when i go with weapons officer i click ship and up comes the merchant, but i can not bring them up on my own???

i am using mods - hopefully it is not a mod issue, i have about 12 running.

edit, just a thought, are you making sure to go to the "merchants" entry in the rec manual? Merchants are not listed under nations in the manual but in a completely separate category listing all merchants in the game (sorry if you do know this, but just checking!).

Otherwise, you could try using the weps officer to identify the ship, bring it up in the manual and then press the button that returns you to the initial page - this may show you where he's finding them!

the war ships are british on the british page but then i go to merchant on the british page and its the same page - war ships??

i will try your idea and see what happens

if there is a different catagory that i am not aware of then please tell me. i am only aware of the two catagories on the front of the manual.

For merchants go to Handellschiffe
Very first one
All mercs are lumped together in that section from all nations

The Nation folders only have warships in

Well, when looking up merchants in the manual, they are not listed by nation. If, for example you see a merchant with a british merchant flag, you don't go to the section of the manual showing British flags, there is one with no flag simply called merchants/handelschiffe.

Merchants are put into this section because they could appear under the flag of any nation.

The sections identified by flags only show warships and naval vessels.

So, essentially, you need to scroll through the manual until you find not the British category, but the merchants category. You then click on this and the list of merchants should appear.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if that's very clear, but hope it helps!

thanks bbw and fw66. i can't believe it. been playing now for nearly 5 years but never at such a level, i always had weapons officer watch officer do it all for me. so i never had to find anything. dont think i've ever been to that part of the manual or looked it up in the game manual.
