Default And we thought UBI was bad!

Apparently EA games will be charging 10 dollars to play a used game online!

here's what the EA sports president has to say:

"This is an important inflection point in our business because it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhance premium online services to the entire robust EA SPORTS online community," -EA Sports president Peter Moore.

what a joke!!

Well, at least ubi does try to create the games we desire. Ever think of that?

EA on the other hand is out for greed I bet ...

So, they take $10 for a second hand sale they would otherwise get nothing from? That's actually pretty brilliant plan.

This is the same policy Ubi follows with they DRM system, dry out the market for used games.
I would love to see the world where theses execs live in, have they never been young/had little money? Never heard the nice words of "customer loyalty"?
I don't know who said it, but it means something like "it takes years to win a customer, but only seconds to lose one."

Only if the user wants to play online.

All EA games, with online play, will have a unique and one time use activation code for anyone wanting to play online. Therefore, anyone wanting to buy these titles as used/second hand will have to pay to access EA servers.

EA do get royalties (in the UK at least) for second hand sales, just not as much.

This method is already used in the POS that is Tiger Woods Golf, where the online is pretty much borked anyway.

BTW, this was introduced to combat console second hand sales. I suspect PC version will have, how do you say?.......workarounds.

I suspect this move will actually hurt EA sales. People who usually buy second hand for a cheaper price will just wait for the normal retail copy to plummet in price. Which, in the console world, means 50% reduction in about 20 days. I don't think EA have done their maths. Oh well.

I kinda fee sorry for good ole Jamie Carlson from SCS, he went to go work for EA last year. I can sense a massive backlash coming his way.

There is ample reason apparently to still despise UBI. All I can say is 15 pages of general disappointment - again. Really glad I haven't bought this - when is 1.4 due out again?

Mainstream developers have really gone overboard in minimizing the QA - both before release and also in after release support. I really do remember the old days when "patches" for games simply - didn't exist.
