Default Musings on game play

I have been running the actual timeline from the beginning of the war until the end and it can take me 2 years in RL to play it all the way through with my immersion parameters and routine.

I was wondering if anyone has multiple boats out on any given year?

What I am thinking of doing is putting 3 boats out in 1940 from either the same port or group to try to capture a bit more single player immersion ... I expect a full RL year to play all three out in 1940 and especially if they are replaced by Bdu if lost or retired.

Do you have a similar routine or preference you can share?

When I'm able/time permitting I run different boat types from the same flotilla and port and compare tonnage/results.

You'd be suprised how often the VII beats the IX despite the disparity in torpedo loadouts.

In the original Silent Hunter you could start either from Pearl Harbor or Manila. I thought about flipping a coin to get a random starting point, but decided to run one career from each instead.

In SH3 I run one career from each flotilla simultaneously. Once I reach a point where multiple types are available I might run more. I'm also running SH4 UBM careers the same way at the same time, so I may have six or more careers at once. And when I get to December 1941 and start American careers the same way...

Needless to say I'll probably never see the end of the war, especially with my habit of starting over...and over, and over...

If my load times were better I might run several careers, but as it is, 20 minutes of loading per patrol for one career is more than enough for me. Dunno if I could do that 3 or 4 times over.

I don't play them all at once. One patrol from the oldest career, then one patrol from the next, around and around.

World War II Timeline: September 13, 1940-September 23, 1940 (my new immersion set-up! same flotilla, same month, 3 boats head out on patrol.)

In September 1940 Italy continued its assault on north Africa and both the United States and Canada instituted conscription policies.

World War II Timeline: September 13-September 25

September 13:
An anemic British force is pushed back when Italy embarks on its first significant assault on the North African front, marching five army divisions into Egypt from Libya.

The African war continues with a 20-mile incursion by Italian troops from occupied Ethiopia into British Kenya.

King George VI and Queen Elizabeth remain in London, despite narrowly missing being struck by bombs that tore through the roof of Buckingham Palace.

September 15: Canada conscripts its single men, ages 21 to 24.

Adolf Hitler postpones Operation Sealion after another botched air battle leaves the Luftwaffe with 60 planes lost while Britain's Royal Air Force (RAF) loses 26.

September 16: The U.S. Congress passes the Selective Training and Service Act, which will enable the registration and conscription of American males ages 21 to 35.

September 17: U-46 in transit back to St. Nazaire (3,920 tons sunk)

September 21: Officials in London permit Londoners who do not have access to bomb shelters to use the Underground for that purpose. At one point, more than 170,000 people will be sleeping in the "Tube."

September 23: 3 U-boats leave St. Nazaire (pens are under construction) at dawn.
