Mav87th was kind enough to post an original document (U-Bootskunde f.U-Boot Bauart VIIC-1940) detailing the systems on the VIIC. Two of the items that caught my were these:
U-boat Torpedo and Mine Loadouts: ![]() U-boat Flak and Deck Gun Ammo. Of note here is the fact that (1) all deck gun ammo was High Explosive and (2) total deck gun ammo count was 205 rounds, not the oft-quoted 220 rounds. ![]() If/when I have time I plan on translating the entire document.

very nice, would like to see a translation as well.
regarding the torpedo loadouts, would it be fair to say that most boats shipped out with a mix of steam and electric torpedoes?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to edit the default torpedo load outs for single missions and multiplayer? In a type 7C for instance all forwards torps are T1's and the aft has 2 T3's in reserve with a T1 in the tube. Quite lame. Would like to have a few electric fish to start off in a convoy attack. I know there was a way to do this in SH3, not sure about SH4.

thanks a lot for the link! It's a great document with tons of useful information ranging from turning times to damage repair team composition and construction details ![]() Do you have a similar document about the torpedoes? Some time ago I was trying to get some information about the preheating mechanism of the G7e and could not find anything (How it was done, how long it took...?). Would be great to see an original document dealing with the torps. Anyway, thanks again for the link. Cheers, LGN1 @BBW: You are right. It says that you cannot store the G7e in the aft storage area because of maintenance issues. What is also interesting is that you could not store six G7a in the bow storage area. Only four G7a possible (plus 2 G7e if desired). |

Hi LukeFF,
some very informative pages are: p 14: Speed settings (diesel engines, electric engines on surface and submerged). p 17: turning circle diameters for different speeds and rudder settings bottom p 18: time to reverse course (180 degrees course change) p 24+25: how loud different activities are, e.g., raising/lowering of scopes (lowering is considerably louder than raising), walking in the sub, pumps, talking, different speed settings (both engines with 100 rpm is 'very loud', one engine 50 rpm is silent). Distance from sound receiver 250m. p 89-117: about fighting flooding As I said, very informative the whole document. Would be great to have something similar about the torps. Cheers, LGN1 |
