Australian Navy : Metric or Imperial ? What do they use ?
The title says it all. Australia has embraced metric since the early seventies. What I don't know is if the RAN still uses imperial units or metric aboard its vessels. Some one care to shine a light on this tiny little issue ?

Yikes, I must have asked the most incredibly difficult question ever.
![]() I'd have more luck getting an answer when asking about TMA. ![]() |

Why don't you simply ask them directly? There is a 'contact us' link on this site:

@ clive bradbury : its a bit exagerate don't you think ?
Anyway, lets see if I can get hold of that group of australians players that hosted RA mod in the past. Maybe they'll be able to give me an answer. |

From what I know they use a bit of both. Knots and Nautical miles for navigation metres, and clicks or KM for range.

Thanks for answering. I thought that maybe they had chosen one system over the other. It seems this is not the case. So what system do we use aboard the Collins for the DWX mod ? Metric or Imperial ? We can't have it 50-50. Its one or the other. |

Depths in metres. Heights in feet. Lengths of vessels/objects in Metres. Distance in yards/nautical miles. Range of contacts in yards/nautical miles. Speed in knots.
and lastly volume by standard metric ****loads. Last edited by diver; 03-26-10 at 04:32 PM. |
