Default Cant shoot straight...

Ok guys, I admit, I am a lousy shooter when it comes to torpedos... If the boat is completely immobile, say inside a port, I'll get up to about 500m from it and get sure hits. But when it comes to convoys moving, say at 5knots, my torpedoes tend to miss a lot. Makes me wonder:

1) What is the optimal firing distance for my torpedos? Is there a "too close" concept? (I thing in SH3 if you fired too close the torpedo did not have time to arm itself, same here?)

2) What is the "torpedo speed" lever for? Should I set it to the fasteast or the slowest or it depends? I guess it depends, but how should I base my decision?

3) Generally speaking, what the heck am I doing wrong...???

Thanks guys!
