Default [WIP] Air dropped torpedoes

Hey all,

I've been working on a little side project. Nisgeis is doing the scripting and together we've made some progress on air dropped torps. It's no where near ready to release but I figured some of you would like some pics of what we've gotten so far.











*the images aren't of the same torp*

There's still a few hurdles but since the devs left us the ability to change the ai's behavior this one just may see the light of day.

If this one will see the light of day SH5 will come a little step closer to this game we all want. Many thx for your great work. Looking forward and hope that there will be a release version someday.

hmmm, dont get me wrong, im all for enhansing all facets of the game, but im a tad confused here?

i just dont get why youd want the air launched torpedo as an ASW weapon. youve gotta line the approach up, youve gotta run the the thing so it arms and hits the diving target, and its against a target that can dive in about 30sec. now as an ASuW weapon, sure.

the priority should be the historical ASW weapon of choice, the shallow fused air dropped depth charge. likely to detonate even under a diving sub it was lethal. Has this already been fixed in-game?

am i missing something here??

Not only as an ASW Weapon. I think (if you look right on the screens) there is at least in 1 Screen a merchant, so it will be against shipping too! (I hope)

First wamphyri makes the planes attack more, then he makes them attack better, now he's making them shoot torpedoes at us!

Maybe.. In his plane mod 1.0 planes drop something on submerging or just submerged sub - but i don't know is that bomb or DC..
I know one thing, since im using this mod planes can be now real pain in the a... like IRL

for you viewing pleasure, FIDO air dropped acoustic torpedo:

standard tactic for carrier based airplanes was for a fighter to first strafe the boat and kill the deck crew, after which a torpedo bomber would drop FIDO in the wake of the U-Boat or its swirl if it dived.

Germans were not the only ones to develop cool toys during the war.

thanks bilge rat,
however FIDO wasnt delivered until 1943, the end of the game as it stands. considering this is an early war/ 'happy times' campaign is it relevant, indeed in game terms even 'homing'?

just to recap, its awesome that this area is being reviewed, i just question a straight shot torpedo priority versus an attacking aircraft diving, strafing the boat then straddling it with lethal shallow depth charges that can kill it even after its dived in 30sec. especially as this was available from the get-go?

now if there was an ASuW role, then i can understand....

Be a cool addition as an anti shipping weapon
Not so great against subs until FIDO comes along
Hope you get it working right
Cos if you can crack that then you should be able to load out MTBs ( if we had any ) and destroyers with them also
Although AI subs allegedly fire them so that may be a lot simpler than the air drop

Long overdue IMHO
