Default Will modders be able to mod?

I was just thinking. If there is a connection to the server at all times, does it automatically patch and update/change files? If it detects that some config files or other data files are different from the official release, will it disable or 'update' the game for you?

No one really knows yet. We know what Ubi said...but, really, let's not take that to heart without a wheelbarrow of salt.

Mods are already being made and used. When using mods in any game, you always want to disable all mods before installing a patch. Patches in any game will sometimes change files that causes mods to no longer work properly. Nothing different in this game.

my point is

A: Do we get a choice if we want to patch or not.
and if it does not give us a choice

B: If we mod something and then start up the game, does ubi say "oh, your files are not aligned iwth our patch, let me push the patch out to you."

I have not purchased the game yet due to DRM issues, so i can't tell.

Patch will autodownload, but you get a Yes/No box about if you want to install it or not.

So you'll have time to turn off mods, then install the patch.

That's good to hear. Means that, short of user forgetfulness, JSGME can be considered compatible with SH5 (at least - if not the other new Ubisoft games).

Yes, and this is the kind of auto patcher I like, where you actually have some say. I still remember my wrath the day I was not paying attention and Steam patched my heavily modded Empire: Total War while I was looking away. Spent at least two hours trying to delete random stuff to make it work, and in the end had to uninstall and redownload the 100000000GB game. Yeah, backup of game files is nice, having an actual DVD is even better. And yes, I know auto patching can be turned off in Steam. I know that NOW.

You don't even have to use the autodownload, it's actually a seperate program, gameupdater. The shortcut on my desktop which the game installed pointed to this, so it first checks update then loads sh5. I changed it back straight to sh5.exe

I don't think the sh5.exe even checks for updates. ALSO, The first patch was up as an exe for download at ubi. http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Info.asp...wnload&dcId=63
