I know this was looked into a while back, but perhaps with the latest developments and understandings of the engine I wanted to see what sort of consensus there might be on the feasibility of this mod. Namely, switching your red lights on or off at will when going on an attack run (regardless of day/night) It seems that the trigger for the red lights is some thing to do with "night" most likely something in the "sunset" "sunrise" data. Perhaps this trigger could be bound to a remapped key? If this is something people would like in the game and the heavies have weighed in as far as it is even possible, I would be happy to under take the task.

I was under the impression that the red lights were used during the night to preserve the crews nightvision, using red light during the day would only cause the crew to be dazzled by sunlight should they go up top. Doesn't seem right to me, and we all know the blue light was added to DAS BOOT merely for atmosphere as opposed to historical fact. I guess it would be welcomed by some, but not the hardcore realists.
Personally, if anything was done with the lights, I'd like to see them flash when you order crash dive or silent running, as a signal to the crew. That would be binded to the commands but I don't know if it's possible. I seem to remember the lights flickering when you took heavy damage in stock SH3, maybe you can adapt that original feature.
