1774 Parallels - with History Professor and author -Dr. William Forstchen

I listened to a good section of this yesterday in my car - and downloaded the complete 3 hr MP3 for future listening. Amazing to see the parallels between one of the most pivotal years in US history (before we were the US!) and the things that are happening today.

For anyone who really wants some good insight into the history of the nation and the war of Indepedance, as well as how things today correlate - I strongly recommend a listen.

Podcast, Feed and mp3 file download are all available here:

http://wwnc.com/cc-common/podcast/si...TakeAStand.xml

It is the full 3 hour show dated 02/25/2010. Warning - it will make you think.....

Edit - for some reason the first 2 hours is not up right now - will find out what the deal is.

OK - shameless bump as well as an update - all three hours are now back up. Now sure what happened there - but I again have to strongly encourage every US citizen to listen and learn at least a little history, and then make your own determination as to its relevence today.

I'm not even American, but my knowledge of the era is a bit rusty and I do enjoy history so I'm going to check it out. Thanks for the link

Oberon - since your British remember that this is from the perspective of the colonial side - and does not purport to be "balanced". What I found quite interesting was the tone - the continued references to the support of the Crown up until it became obvious that a hearing of grievances was not going to be heard.

I am pleased a couple of people are taking an interest - history is a fascinating subject!

Indeed it is! Much to my dismay the other day while watching The Patriot, I was asked who the "good guys" were from a 19 year old high school graduate.

Since I'm operating out of the library right now, I can't watch it in one lump; but I will get to it.

My personal background: I recently (three years ago) discovered the wonder of good biographies and original writing. I read a great bio of Benjamin Franklin, then went through seven different books on Jefferson, one of them six volumes and thirty-five hundred pages, finishing with McCullough's book on John Adams.

I've just finished reading the collected writings of Thomas Paine. If you haven't read Common Sense and The American Crisis, you can't truly understand the feelings that led to our 'Separation'.

I'm looking forward to this.

Nikimcbee - what did you think of it? Learn anything, and do you think any of the lessons of the time apply today?

For the record - the host caught all kinds of flak initially for the show - however in the days following an overflow of support for the show's historical points flowed in as well. I personally thought it was very good.
