Default Awesome in its awesomeness

From what I have seen so far Silent Hunter 5 looks incredible.

All this talk of how Silent Hunter 5 is dumbed down and is an Arcade game is just pure conjecture. Nobody knows yet!!!

Red pointers etc.. will be able to be switch off as they have been in every SH since 3 and I'm sure many other realism settings will remain that were there in SH3 and 4.

Moan about DRM but get a grip people - I'm sick to death of reading about people posting remarks about the game's simulation qualities vs arcade when they have zero facts either way on the matter. And personally I think the concerns are unfounded. I think when this game comes out it will turn out to be SH3 and so much more. Ok , the campaign ends in 1943 - this is clearly because they want to release addons. And even if they don't it WILL be modded.

I am SO looking forward to this game. Being able to run around inside the sub from compartment to compartment - running around the Sub Pen while docked! - The incredible looking graphics we have seen thus far - The incredible potential for modding! I'm sick of hearing people analysing which way a shadow is pointing.

Oh and personally I think the new interface looks superb and seems a welcome breath of fresh air compared to the clunky interfaces present in SH3 and 4.

You have never had it so good - the most good looking sub game ever and many are refusing to buy it or simply spending their days posting videos and images poking fun at game.

Only a month to go - cannot wait!

Everyone else who is also excited for this release please feel welcome toadd your support to the game and its developers here.

Well, to each their own, but personally I thought one of the overriding aims of this franchise was to provide an immersive experience - the interface I've seen so far doesn't make me feel like an sitting in a U-boat in 1941, it makes me feel like I'm Georgie LaForge staring at an LCARS console on the bridge of the USS Enterprise.

That part is an arseload of fail in my opinion, but modders may save it.

There are subtle hints the game is dumbed down - looking at one video I noticed your own boats speed (in the digital speedometer, yargh) shoot from 10 knots to 14 in about a third of a second.

Could be difficulty setting, but previous SH installments didn't changed things like accelaration rates between difficulty levels.

A lot of the negativity comes from the fact that they haven't said much yet, and by this late date they should be bragging about it. That alone has people worried.

I've made no secret of the fact that what Mihai has said about moddability has me very excited. If we can work with most anything in the game, the almost anything is possible. I have some minor worries, but I think that at this point the future looks bright.

I agree. We asked for a lot, and teh devs had to compromise on some things (the 1943 end, for one). But I think they're very cognizant of the fact that we have a great resource with our modders. Hopefully the game gives them the platform to do awesome things.

I can't get too worried about a lot of the "out of the box" stuff that's easily modded (crew responses, menu verbage, etc). Someone's going to inevitably come along and change it anyways, so what's the big deal?

Wow, a positive thread? Well I share the TCs feeling, but it wont be long before the TC is flamed for liking the game and this turns into another DRM bitch fest.

Nobody made it an issue or mentioned it until you did.

Your complaints about the fact that everyone doesn't behave as YOU think they 'should ' would be vaguely credible if you were to display the behaviour you seem to be demanding.

Pretty much my hope as well. If it is as moddable as they say, maybe they thought.. "those guys at Subsim just make it into whatever they want anyways.. so let's make it more mass-market appealing.. "

I am a newbie here, and have enjoyed all the postings reference SH5. It makes for good entertainment to hear the whole gammit of opinions, suggestions & complaints. I think all aspects of SH5 have been addressed in these forums. "Is it a Sim, a game, will it have?, I don't like it, I like it, is it immersive, the damage factor, the morale factor, and a million other aspects of "a production" that has never been released yet, have been praised and criticized.

We all know the same truth, but I remind you that the devs at Ubisoft know clearly what they are doing. They are professionals with a lot of experience. SH5 IS NOT A NEW CREATION BUT THE CONTINUED EVOLUTION OF A GREAT PRODUCT. They have heard and listened to the cries in the wilderness, and have been enlightened by some and offended by others. They will put out a damn good production to be enjoyed by all.

Some posts remind me of the enthusiam and anticipation we have all experienced as a child waiting impatiently for some "event" to occur.

I KNOW FOR ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY: When SH5 is released it will be like XMAS for the modders. We all will be greatful for the gift we receive from Ubisoft and will get lost in the immersion of the whole thing.

It has been entertaing to watch the group here in all its "awe" anticipating........Ships...

it is very good to read an enthusiastic and excited post for sh5 - it has gotten such a thumping, my dissapointment has been registered too about the brutish looking crew - but your post gives it all a lift. and yes, it does look beautifull and i hope what ever issues may trouble it are worked out.

thanks for the post and i hope your dreams come true
