Default Surviror

I noticed the uboat campaign has no "Guard" missions. () but I was wondering if anyone knows why any Japanese or German 'Survivors" don't pop smoke?
They use the same .dat file as the US and the same smoke/material.dat as the US and are listed in the roster for Japan and German. They can be placed in the water, they appear on a single mission, they can be saved, they are detected by the sub/ship. But NO Smoke?? What would prevent the smoke? I know the anim is a US Pilot (#AM_SOL_PIL_01) and the particle generator uses Materials.dat ($FHSmoke02) but it only shows for the Americans.

Edit: I guess I need to learn how to spell Survivor.

its pure speculation but i always thought it was because an enemy (you) were in the area

i always guessed they would if you were playing the axis side then you would see smoke from them, never really looked into it thou

hope you figure it out but it may be as simple as the devs omitted it to prevent confusion
