Merchants with Sonar Gear

I have recently started to use TM 1.7. On the current patrol, I came across a pair of Small Split Old Frieghters that were listed as a TF and travel at 18 knots. So I line up a constant bearing approach and put a fish in the lead one (didn't sink).

Next thing I know, I have a pair of these Small Split Old Ferighters pinging me with sonar gear and dropping depth charges.

Is this a "feature" of TM or didn't something get messed up in the mod application.

Just wanted to make sure I didn't mess up my install.
