Just a question about weather in SH4. I'm running v1.5 with the latest official TMO (not the 1.8 beta). I have made several patrols now and I seem to be encountering a very high amount of "light fog" weather in the game. I don't know if this is designed to be realistic (I would imagine with the ocean having a lot of moisture fog might be pretty common) or a design choice to make things more challenging, or what? It is literally to the point where I don't think I have ever conducted combat in conditions other than light fog (and once in heavy fog). All the time that I operate in "real time" seems to always be in light fog, I am not sure what the conditions are all the time on the extended legs to and from Pearl Harbor which I run at high TC but random spot checks of these also seem to indicate a lot of fog.
does the amount of fog or probability for light fog depend on the geographical location or time of year? (aside: does the amount of daylight you get vary with latitude/time of year as well?) Maybe time of day too (where morning fog might be common but it dissipates in the afternoon when usually I am submerged or running high TC to cover ground)? It's not really a complaint (other than the fact that the fog does slow the fps down a little) but just wondering is there supposed to be this much fog? Ruahrc |

I haven't noticed it as you have. Obvious see it, but not as you imply. If it bothers you try hitting Control N from a cam view point. Not sure why but it can reset weather and if you ever get a laggy water screen, ect..resets it. Bascially sonar key, just works that way.
I tend to run into more weather down south. However, I would always prefer light fog...work it to your advantage. |

I would advise you to get it. Even if you are not interested in the uboat side of things, most mods are designed to work with 1.5. I've just loaded sh4 up. On my main menu screen there is a little 'v1.5' in the bottom right hand corner - check this! Sorry Ruahrc, I can't help with the fog problem. I am running the 1.8 Beta, and have many variations in weather. Last edited by sergei; 09-20-09 at 06:10 AM. |

If you need to upgrade, it costs around 10 bucks to purchase the U-Boat (i.e. 1.5) upgrade. You can download it online.

I've noticed this as well and frankly it's unrealistic. South Pacific (I've been there A LOT) tends to be very clear, not a typical weather condition at all, especially away from land. I don't know what changes were made to the weather engine but that is one they should reverse.
