How deep have you guys ever taken your sub in SH4?? I was just down at 400ft in a Sargo class boat to avoid a couple of sub chasers. They raced over to my position but then turned and headed off the other way, as if trying to attack me was not worth the effort. haha
![]() But, the gross dial only goes upto 450ft, has anyone ever taken their boat past this depth and actually survived?? I'm curious to hear of some tales of someone having to go real deep getting the snot DC'd out of them by the japs ![]() Speaking of which, like in SH3, do the Japanese destroyers get better as the war goes on yeah? |

Depends on the mod...With TMO, 600ft for a Gato is far as I'll go. Course you can go much deeper, you just won't come back up.

Oh, several thousands of feet, all the way to the bottom.
Problem is the boat never returned to the surface. ![]()

donut according to ducimus DC will go a couple thousand feet deep.
I've been to 700+ in a Gato once and came up with no damage. hit the "set dive planes to deep dive" button by mistake while in 32X TC. just after I installed TMO. Magic

How have you been able to go that deep when the dial only goes to 450ft,?? Or do you just set the planes to deep dive and the boat will go down deeper?

Anybody know what determines how deep you can go? Is your crush depth set randomly each patrol, or is it calculated constantly, or does it stay the same throughout the career, etc? Once, the instant I went below the red line on my gauge the rivets started poppin' but others I go way below wartime records without any damage at all.
It would be interesting if Ducimus could code each historical boat to their estimated crush depths ![]() EDIT: That Porpoise was USS Chopper, a Balao - went below 1000 during a miscommunication accident. http://www.usschopper.com/Chopper%20...e%20Report.htm I still seem to remember another story about a Gato however, that had a lot of trouble with her trim tanks while under attack and was pointing almost 90 degrees up before they got her under control. That's the one I thought went over 900... Last edited by The Fishlord; 08-02-09 at 09:34 PM. |
