Targeting problems

Ok guys I'm stumped, when I do the torpedo attack in sub school I can put in the speed thats fine, angle of boat fine I go to the attack map and the course of the torpedo looks great but when I try to put in the range the minute I touch the stadimeter you go to the attack map the torpedos path hooks 90 degrees to the left or sometimes the right mostly the left so I try to manually adjust the range and by then its to late ship is past I have manual option on in settings, anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong tried for 2 hours same results over and over I am using tmo but dont think that affects sub school hmm, thanks.
