Which torp do you prefer, TI or TII for early war?

It is Sept. 1939 and I'm just wondering what type of torpedo do you prefer to use and why? There is only the fast steam powered TI that leaves bubble trails or the electric stealthy TII.

I prefer the TI early on. Love the speed and versatility they had. I seem to have had little trouble with them.
I've mixed in the TII and I've had very little bad luck with them. Mostly prematures in rough seas.
Avoid setting the TII for magnetic fuse early on though.

I don't load the TI's for a normal load out later in the war except for externals, so I still have to use the good ole steamers after I move my externals inside. You just have to be more careful in daytime.

i almost always leave port with the following load out

tube one: T1
tube Two: T2
tube three: T2
tube four: T1

this way spread shot one and four will have the same type of torpedoes and spread shot 2 and 3 will have the same type of torpedoes (so one does not outrun the other in a 2 shot spread)

everything else is the T1s

i prefer the higher speed setting of the t1- it allows me to get the shot off and get the attack some momentum early

Early I use TI, little by little I increase the number of TII, now I'm in the '42 and in the internal reserves I've TII and externals TI

Try to keep a good mix in the fore tubes and fore internal reserve,
With Rear tubes and all externals TI's (Electrics don't like being outside)

I prefer TII, or any other electric torpedo over the steam one. Too many times the wakes got spotted and my attack ruined.

I prefer TI, because of speed. Anyway my u-boat has many external torpedoes (TI only).

At first when I started playing SH I used only TI's because of their speed, which can rectify your own faulty calculations. Especially against attacking ASW vessels. After a while I started to recognize the virtues of the TII and III, particularly on long shots in daylight. Ambushing ASW vessels in daylight with the TI often results in a miss (they start weaving) and subsequent discovery. Problem with the early TII, as I have experienced it, is the numerous duds on impact fuze.

Early in the war I have found the TI very reliable on short-distance (400-700 meters) magnetic fuze shots. On longer shots, however, they often go off prematurely. Particularly in rough seas. Which is a little strange as they are then set on a deeper running.

I used to be a TI fan.
I never had any problem with my torps getting spotted before impact.

However, recently I have switched to TIIs. The only reason being that, unlike
with TIs, the destroyers don't always head straight for you after your torps
impact.

I still keep TIs in my aft tubes because most boats didn't have the heating
equipment needed to launch battery powered torps from the aft tubes.

It is certainly true of at least two VIICs.
I assume that means it was true of all VIICs, but they might have fitted
torp heating to the aft late war, I don't know.

I have no idea about other U-boat types, but I wouldn't be at all surprised
if the IX did have heating gear for all tubes.

IRL all electric torps needed to have their batteries heated for 20mins to an
hour to ensure they ran at full speed and range.
