Bf 17 as the big grid... BF19 is a smaller grid inside of it I think.

The majority of radio messages are for game immersion purposes only.
The patrol areas eg: BF17 were further sub divided to make precise positioning possible....see articles below: http://uboat.net/maps/grid.html http://www.uboataces.com/articles-naval-grid.shtml Ignore the latitude and longitude co-ordinates because the SH3 world is not accurate when compared to a real world map. |

2. When you receive messages with longitude and latitude coordinates, they come on open channel from ships under attack etc.. To my knowledge that is only to add to realistic atmosphere of the game, and if you go there you won't find anything. If you still want to convert longitude and latitude coordinates into Kriegsmarine quadrants and vice versa, go here: http://www.ubootwaffe.net/quadrant.cgi

Pointless regarding co-ordinates.....the SH3 world is not to scale

If you get a mapcontact, a line in the messagepanel, and a radiomessage at the same time (they must have matching information) then it is a contact (almost certainly a convoy) and can be relied on to be there. Well, those convoys have tendency to move, so you should take that into account as you close up on them.
If it is only a radiomessage you can ignore it and consider it dis-information or immersion to the atmosphere of the war. Whatever makes you feel better about the Allies. ![]() I disagree with Jimbuna. The game map IS to scale in terms of latttude and longitude degrees. It just isn't to scale in terms of distances and angles 'as the crow flies'. A degree in longitude and lattitude in the game is 120km in length. But definately not in the real world. If you measure the positions of cities and other landmarks in rectagular coordinates on the map, and divide those horizontal and vertical distances (to the prime meridian and equator) by 120 km you get very accurate lattitude and longitude coordinates that match with i.e. your atlas or Google Earth.
