has anyone fixed the sonar and radar to work properly?
in both cases if you select continuos sweep they both turn off and wont comply to your orders. whats the point of having the continuos sweep buttons if they will only cycle on and off? im sure its the same stupid ";" somewhere that is disabling it, but has anyone figured out where to find this listed? |

Look with the Shift F2 free cam ( through the aft passageway and up ) to the CT and both radar and sonar are busy sweeping/turning. Maybe I don't understand what you're asking? Art |

both radar scopes will make a partial sweep and pause, then turn back on and make another partial sweep and pause, and thats what they are supposed to do but when i tell them to make a full sweep they do not make a full sweep
they have a button to say make full sweep so i click it and they still only make a partial sweeps. then i try to turn then off with the turn off radar button and they will not shut off so why do they even give you the off button? if these buttons cannot control it as they are labeled then why have them? |

I agree with Anker--when I select radar on (in 1.5 it turns on automatically) and sweep on, the radar does just that. If, like Anker says, I go to the radar station sweep is not at that point no on. However, if I am anywhere else it is sweeping. Same with the sonar--always on unless I am at that station.

Some mods don't use Snorkeldepth= for Radar Depth and instead use it to dive deep probably figuring you can just click 40' on the depth gauge, and also there is no other 'free command' to dive deep. On mine I removed the red indicator needles and use MaxDepth= to go deep. As for turning the SJ off - I know for a fact it stays off if I turn it off because I still use part of the old green lamp HUD. Does this help? Art |

well a delete and replacement of the data folder solved the on off problem and i think the 2 second sweep and off thing was because it was before i should have had it or something because its working corrrectly now too
it does seem like you should be able to run the ppi and the a-scope independant of each other but i guess if there was a way it would have been done already. i spend soo much time modding stuff i never even play the game anymore except for testing things so i forget how stuff works lol ![]() thanks for the help guys ![]() |

Several months ago I stood at the A scope and turned my view so I could see the PPI scope at the same time. I then rotated the A scope. It's been a while since I did that so I don't recall for sure what happened but it seems to me they worked in tandem. Isn't that as it should be? Aren't they two different view of the same radar? Same antenna? Next time I'm in the game I need to try that again.

i dont know enough about it,maybe they are supposed to do that but they have on off switches for each panel so i assumed they should turn off seperately or why have the extra switch? |

Two switches perform the same function (turning the SJ on and off) probably because the field of view of the player is usually focused on either the PPI or the A-Scope is my guess. The PPI is relative bearing (and distance of course) and the A-Scope is 'precise' distance. A long time ago someone said the m is for "multiply by" - not meters - on SH4's A-Scope if using imperial.... someone else said "multiply by" is implied, which is usually true.
The SD Air search radar is located in the control room of the fleet boats if you look at the damage screen page but the unit itself is not modeled, nor is the fathometer, or the bathythermograph. Too bad. I usually configure my SJ station like banjo said - rotating the view to show both the PPI and the A-Scope in one screen. Then I can keep an eye on the distance while using the PPI to do a 'normal approach course' of the target(s). It would be nice to see these missing instruments. I am no good at making models or UV mapping but maybe someday someone will. Happy Hunting! Art |

didnt anyone ever fix it so you dont have the radar untill you were supposed to have it?
it seems simple enough since other things arent there till there supposed to be. maybe a retextured image covering it so as not to show the screens? im not sure what can be done about the radars themselves but if they were only available as upgrade items or something maybe they wouldnt be on every boat when they werent available yet. |

What would those strange stacks of electrical equipment in the CT be with plates on them.... lol - just kidding. SD air search radar was available in Jan 42 but SD isn't modeled in the CR anyway. By rights there shouldn't be a bathythermograph until 43 - but that too isn't modeled - just the voice, "passing thermal layer" Art |

Is there a mod which will switch the radar on automatically upon surfacing after a dive. I know the 'R' key will switch it on/off but lame brains such as myself sometimes forget while concentrating on the map and I know the radar crew would certainly not forget! LOL.
On a similar topic, is there a mod which will maintain the constant sweep when I go to the radar station. The radar can be sweeping normally (due to my issuing the command from the command buttons etc) but if I go to the radar station to look at the screen it automatically stops sweeping and I have to click on the button to get it to continue. I find this quite annoying as I much prefer to have the sweep continue without my having to "interfere". thanks, |

As for the SJ turning off when you look - I am unaware of a fix and just live with it. Yes I agree it can be a nuisance to always be clicking it back on. With all of its flaws I am just happy UBI made a submarine sim in the Pacific Theatre; a game I waited at least 10 years to see...... lol Happy Hunting! Art |

In 1.5 UBM the radar activates automatically when you surface.

Are we talking about the same radar here. I have the UBM (1.5) with TMO and RSRD and I have to physically switch on the radar (surface search) when I surface. I look up from the bridge and click 'R' and watch the antenna start spinning or I use the command buttons but either way I have to switch it on after surfacing every time. The air search is automatic but not the surface search.
