Default Another Time Lapse

This one is of Sailing!

But the winds quickly died, and of the scheduled 12 races, we did I think. This is being played at 50x normal speed, so you can imagine how slow it was for us, but quite enjoyable for the viewer!

Like it, how do you judge sail trim and pointing when going to windward? can you
control the boat from anywhere around the lake or do you all have to be in the same place.

Theyre RC, so Main and jib sheets are controlled by servo, and rudder too. Downhauls, Outhauls, Vang, etc are all preset or adjusted by hand.

We have a large lake in a public park in my town but luckily for the yacht/sailing members the park is situated just a few hundred yards from the coastline so lack of wind is seldom a problem for them.

Usually not a problem for us in this pond. Our other one is situated in a valley near a river, so the winds are down right screwy there. Last year we had to cancel a whole bunch of dates due to heavy wind, this year, we're cutting races short due to lack of wind.

That looks like so much fun. I wish I had time to take it up.

Yes, I used to race an Olympic class back in the day. Done various other bits of sailing, even got to crew on the New Zealand 12m boat from the Americas Cup (It was a tourist thing in the Bahamas, but dammit I crewed an AC class boat).

But I'll tell you what, these little boats handle just like their bigger cousins. The same rules, theories, and physics all still apply. They have most of the advantages of the bigger boats, but much fewer headaches.

I put maybe 120 hours into building this one. Granted 80 of that was working on design prototypes for the 3d printed kit I'm going to start selling. It will cut the build time from 40 hours to 20. But that said, I would hesitate to sell this one for under $1000.

The 12m are awesome, we have a week of racing locally for traditional boats through to dinghys and cruisers, a couple of years ago Crusader and Italia attended and match raced, it was impressive.

Take a look, visit a club. Most clubs have loaner boats you can use for a day. It's pretty similar to meth, first one's free. But I think Meth may be less addicting.

Im racing this weekend, on a herreshoff 6m (US4). A decent breeze is forecast so it should be fun and very wet.

Boat shifted in the car this weekend, broke off the rudder mount internally, in a place I designed to not have to fix. Soooo..... Long day ahead of delicate epoxy work for me.
