I had this crazy idea. What if the radar antenna was combined with the periscope, so when the periscope was above water the radar would function - that could perhaps be used to emulate the late war periscope with radar rangefinding...??

I could never find a way to make the radar antenna rotate with the periscope, so the periscope bearing controlled the bearing of the radar beam. The periscope could be made to rotate with the radar, but not the other way round. It's possible to do, but not so that you can point at the target and then go read off a range on the radar station. You'd have to control the radar from the radar station. If that's OK with you, then go for it.
