Default Raingear

Is it me, or do the German crews in 1.5 have the same rain jackets as the American crews? If they do, is there any way to import/mod the raingear as in SH3?

Darn! You've discovered the top-secret infiltration of Germany by Sears, the same company that made raingear for the US Navy. (is that a real poncho, or is that a Sears poncho?). The Sears German raingear was made purposely without vents in an effort to sabotage U-Boat morale.

Unfortunately, it was learned that German sailors rather liked to sweat too much and rather enjoyed the resulting lethal body odor. It became a mark of manhood for German sailors and Sears' role was kept secret after the war in order not to embarrass the originators of this ineffective scheme.

Seriously fellas, yes or no? If yes, could anything be done to correct it? I'm asking cause I saw this, and just want to be certain nothing is screwed on my end.

Heh sorry mate, sometimes we forget we're grown-ups (when did that happen, and HOW DO WE STOP IT?!). Try sending a PM to John W. Hamm. He's worked on a uniform mod, maybe he knows the answer to your question.

You need to install the new Grownups Only mod for 1.5 (will not work with earlier versions).

On a serious note, once again, and just taking a wild guess here: how about cloning the existing raincoats, make a simple recolor, and assign them to the german crew? Will that require a new set of animations too?

Oddly enough you are correct, however there is actually a rain coat in the textures with the U boat add on that is for the germans and when it is coded correctly (the same way the other german uniforms are coded) it shows up, however they have the rain coat coded in the same way as the american (and with the american textures) why I have not idea as they use the german way of assigning (coding) textures for all the other german uniforms for the rest of the 3d images... My self and another gentleman are working on a new Uniform Mod that will be released in about a week or two, and in it I was considering re-assigning (coding) the german coat in instead. but I haven't gotten that far yet.

P.S. the for the most part they are the same except the german one is a lighter color, though it also has the breast eagle on it and an enlisted rank insignia on the shoulder (which is why I was considering not using it due to my mod being a rank and uniform mod)

Thanks JH. Looking forwards to useing your mod Just to be clear, you're saying that the code for the German raincoats is still similar to the Americans, with a slight variation? How accurate is this historicly speaking? I always thought the gear in SH3 portrayed an accurate representation of what was used, especially since actual U Boat footage shows the crews in such gear. I'm assumeing the same gear was used in the IO theater of operations. Is there any way to create this?

"Montana" on Overnite Sensation. A masterpiece of ........whatever it is.

The poncho thing is a running joke for at least one other album as well.

Nothin but the best for my dog! I came within inches of picking Central Scrutinizer as my Subsim handle.

To be totaly honest when it comes to german uniforms I have no authority, when I did my first uniform Mod for Sh4 v1.4 it was an american only mod (american I know), when the Uboat missions came out I received some request to make it compatible with 1.5 as well as adding German rank insignias, so I did and shortly there after I found out from an onslaught of PM's that I had done a great many things wrong with the german Uniforms, so with the help of some of the critics mainly leonidas I was have been making the correct changes and Libor has been redoing textures of the hats, uniforms, pants, rank insignias of both german and american in far superior graphics than I did in my original mods, so essetially I really don't know how historically accurate it is.

Due to the fact that ther are rank insignias on the German raincoats already and they would conflict with the ones we are making we more than likely will not be using them in the mod, though I will see if libor might be able to remove the insignia's and replace it with texture so it still looks good, the thing is there he has put in so much time and effort I would feel bad for asking him to do just one more thing.

and and on the part you wanted to be clear on, it's not similar...it is the same assignment

these are lines taken directly from the upc files

German:

CrewMemberBodyPart20= Wet, Torso, bust_m04, 1, bust_md04.tga

American

CrewMemberBodyPart20= Wet, Torso, bust_m04, 1, bust_md04.tga

if in the german UPC file they had actually wante to use the german coat it should have looked like this

CrewMemberBodyPart20= Wet, Torso, bust_m04, 1, bustg_md04.tga

or they could have used

CrewMemberBodyPart20= Wet, Torso, bustg_04, 1, NULL

which this one is used for cold weather but it adds 3d model #4 with texture bustg_md03
unlike the rest of the codes that add model 2 with texture 2 etc... etc..., actually ther is alot more to it and would take a thread all it's own to explain the point is it uses the same one for both.

I could but they would have to be based on either the german or the American uniforms already in the game, so basicaly you would have one of those with Japanese insignias, now me and libor have been discussing doing a dress uniform forthe german and americans thatwould show ribbons that have been earned as well as their rank, and I would have to assume that he would need to start from scratch to do that. so if he is in fact able to do that maybe he is able to do a jap uniform as well, though I'm sure it would be labor intensive, tell me first how you would feel about modifying the already either american or german uniforms, and also give me some links to some. and i'll kick it around and see what I can come up with.
