Default verdamnt Vista!

I just went through a 3 hour process to try and restore my most glorious career ever. For some reason my last save would not load and the game would crash to the desktop. I went through and uninstalled reinstalled the game, the patch and GWX 3.0 twice in order to save my career. All to no avail. I had to load the save prior which was in base before patrol. I hate Vista!

I can't even get SH3 to run on my Vista-occupied computer. I have the 'Encore' Starforce-free disk with the latest version of the game and I tried everything including installing it in a separate folder. No joy.

Ooh, that's rough. What exactly prevents the game from running? Starforce-free too, crazy stuff.

It gets through the intro movie clip OK and then goes black. You do get the music though. I tried deleting the intro video, but still no go.

I still can't forgive my XP machine for konking out.

bill gates should be hung with a piano wire and a meat hook for delivering such an obnoxious, and annoying little piece of software.

Jazer, It's not just Vista that does it, my XP Pro does it too.

The "menu all black"-bug has nothing to do with Vista or Bill Gates, but your system. It's most likely EITHER a 1) a problem with the background video and a codec on your system, OR 2) a wrong setting in the NVidia(no a problem with Ati as far as I know) control panel.

Solution: 1) If you have installed a big codec pack on your system, or installed ffdshow separately, then this is for you. Older versions of ffdshow don't get along with the method of showing the main menu background video in SH3 and 4, which results in a crash. Uninstall ffdshow, and the problem is gone. Should you still want to use it you need a newer version, preferably one from 2009.

2) I don't remember the solution for this because I don't have an NVidia card, but it's there in the SH4 troubleshooting threads or the NVIDIA Tips&Tricks thread.

yeah, I remember having a few corrupt saves on the XP system as well. But all in all, I seem to be having more issues with the Vista setup.

I have the FOCUS edition of SH3 which is Vista compatable(well that's what it says on the cover).I have never had any problems installing or playing this version which I play on my new Vista laptop and my ancient XP PC.You can find this usually priced at £10.It even saves OK everytime no matter what my circumstances.

Thats SH3's fault... not Microsoft's .... even so... Vista is still a crime against humanity.

I must be the only one who has no problems with vista. Are any of you updating from XP to vista if you are a lot of people are having trouble with that.

Yes i went and bought that FOCUS edition worth every penny. All though i must admit i was using before the No CD PATCH.

I have heard many people on the computer geeks sites say dont do an upgrade the best way to get things right is put the complete new vista on a machine. I think this goes for any new Windows which comes out.
