hello all,
i have recently purchased sh4 wotp and i have been watching video tutorials on how to attack a ship only with sonar... i see on the video that the author of the video tutorial uses the sonar ping to determine the range. I tried the same thing and when i ping i don't see the range displayed or i don't see the arrow stopping at the determined range for me to get the range i have to ask my sonar man to get this information... how do i fix this. many thanks to all who replies. PS I have the 1.4 patch installed from the official website |

Welcome to Subsim.
Having just recently switched from 1.4 to 1.5 I think I can help you out. The sonar ping will work but in my experience you can't be too far away. What I've found is that if the target is at a very long range the active sonar will spin then stop then a short time later you'll hear the return 'pong'. At that point you should hit the 'send data to TDC' button and you'll see the range displayed in your message box. If the target is well within active sonar range then you'll see the indicator stop before a full revolution and the return 'pong' but, if memory serves, you still have to hit the 'send data to TDC' button before you'll see the range stated in the message box. One thing to remember: if there are warships about and you're using active sonar then be prepared to get a lot of attention!!! Hope this helps. ![]() |

It could be worse and giving something like this back:
![]() Make sure your are pining in the right direction. Having your sound man report the nearest contact gives you a bearing to listen too, but usually if you hear the propellers your good to go ... ping. Also, it takes ages for the distance to show up in the message box to appear (if at all), unless you manually push the "Send Range to TDC". This can be done before the ping actually returned. You could just ping->send repeatedly in quick succession.
